MASH COOKERS & LAUTER TUNS
Revival mash cookers and lauter tuns are built to order and are based on your unique design specifications. If you are new to distilling, don't worry, we have you covered! Our engineers can direct you to a design most suited to the spirits you will be creating.
The type of equipment you need will depend on the type of spirit you intend to produce and whether you plan to ferment and distill on the grain or off the grain. A bourbon or rye whiskey distilled on the grain will require a mash cooker that can mix thick mash as well as heat the mash. Single malt (Scotch) style whiskey or spirits distilled off the grain, will require a lauter tun which has a flat bottom with screens and rakes for lautering.

Revival mashing systems are designed specifically for your type of fermentation and distilling, whether on the grain or off the grain. With larger mixers and external heating jackets our mash cookers are designed to effectively heat thick bourbon and rye mashes. Automation options are also available for stepped mashing cycles. Cooling jackets or coils can be applied to cool the mash in the mash cooker before transfer to the fermenter. This potentially eliminates the need for large hard to clean external shell and tube mash coolers.
For single malt (Scotch) style whiskeys and other spirits distilled off the grain, a lauter tun with screens and a specialized mixer is used. The sugar-rich liquid that drains from the ports under the screens (wort) is then run through a heat exchanger before reaching the fermenter.
