Continuous columns

Continuous Columns

Continuous columns are designed to be fed by a continuous feed of fermented mash or beer. They are used by many of the large spirits manufacturers around the world. The most common spirits made using a continuous column are bourbon, whiskey, rum, vodka. Although these columns are great for larger distilleries they are not suited to the volumes or varieties of spirits that many craft distillers are producing.

Continuous columns have been used since the early 1800's and have become quite common in the spirits industry. The advantages of high production rate, high efficiency and continuous operation allow larger distilleries an economic advantage over smaller batch systems. Column stills range in feed rate capacity from 10 L/min to 150 L/min.
